Prince William has been praised for his response to a boy who hilariously admitted to having no clue who he was.

In a clip that resurfaced on TikTok last week, William is filmed meeting and greeting the public during a walkabout in Windsor in May when confronted with a potentially awkward interaction.

A boy in the crowd was clearly excited to get a glimpse of the Prince of Wales despite seemingly not recognising him when standing a yard away.

The young lad was recorded asking: “How long until we are going to be able to see Prince William?"

William quickly responded with a wink at the boy's parent: "We don't know where he is!

“Have you seen him yet?"

The 41-year-old heir to the throne was then heard asking the boy whether he knew who he was, to which the boy said: "Uh...the government?"

"I'm not the government," William says with a laugh. "Do I look like the government, do I?"

The royals were on a walkabout when the young lad asked him who he was

Finally, the boys managed to figure out who the prince was, turning to him mum and saying: “That's Prince William, mummy.”

The clip sparked an outpouring of positive comments on social media about Prince William’s conduct during the walkabout, which took place just one day after King Charles was officially crowned.

"I love this! He's such a lovely lovely man. Taking interest in everything the lil lad said," wrote one TikTok user of the clip, Newsweek reports.

He was praised for handling the situation well

"This is the cutest thing I've ever seen," another said, while a third wrote: "He's a natural. Charismatic guy."

The resurfaced video comes as a new poll revealed that Prince William is actually even more famous to Americans than Meghan Markle, despite the latter being born in the States.

The Daily Star reported that the surprising poll revealed that California-born Meghan Markle is actually less famous than both Prince William and Prince Harry in America, and that she also proved to be less popular with Yanks.
