King Charles III took Prince Harry's military role of Captain General of Royal Marines after the Duke of Sussex was stripped of the title after stepping back from royal dutiesKing Charles III became the Captain General of the Royal Marines after Prince Harry was stripped of the title when he stepped down as a senior royal.
The Duke of Sussex, 38, lost his military titles, which also included Commodore-in-Chief of Ships and Diving, and Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Honington, in February 2021 after he and Meghan Markle announced their plans to step back from royal duties the previous year.
In a statement to mark the 358th anniversary of the Corps of Royal Marines, the King, 74, said he was "exceptionally proud" to become its ceremonial head.
His Majesty said: “It is the greatest possible pleasure to assume the role of your Captain General.

Harry was stripped of his military duties and banned from wearing his military uniforms in public after quitting his royal role in 2020The move means King Charles now has four military appointments - alongside his royal title.

In 2021, King Charles - then the Prince of Wales - inherited the titles Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich upon the death of his father, Prince Philip. When he acceded to the throne on 8 September 2022, these titles merged with the Crown.
