Prince William vowed to a royal fan he'd keep defiant amid the "rift" with Prince Harry after his book was released.
Prince of Wales, 41, attended a commitment at Royal Liverpool University Hospital days after Spare was published, a memoirs said to quickly have become the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time. During this function, Sylvia, an 81-year-old fan, clutched William's hand and said: "Keep going Will, 'scousers' love you," referring to the loving nickname for Liverpudlians.
It emerged William responded with a simple: "I will do." The encouragement came as royal insiders labelled his brother's memoirs as "confrontational" and "yet another attack on the royal family". Spare, though, did sell more than 1.4 million copies on its first day of publication in January.
Royal fans clamoured to pose for selfies with Kate Middleton at the hospitalThe day after Sylvia's advice, William attended a royal engagement in Birkenhead, Merseyside. The Prince of Wales seemed to ignore a reporter who asked if he'd read his brother’s book.
"Your Royal Highness, have you had a chance to read your brother’s book at all?" the journalist shouted, according to video footage captured by ITV. However, the eldest son of King Charles and the late Princess Diana showed no reaction as he walked away with Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, by his side.
The Liverpool and Birkenhead trips were William's first work appearances following the release of Spare. In it, Harry, 38, also made private family squabbles and conversations public, including personal rows with William.
More than 1.4 million copies of Spare were sold on its first day of publicationDuke of Sussex claims he was left battered and bruised when the Prince of Wales tossed him to the floor in a bitter fight two months before he and Meghan Markle, 41, left the royal family. The book also addresses Meghan's relationship with Kate. The book says: "Meg asked if Kate was aware of what was going on right now. With her father. Kate said she was well aware, but the dresses. And the wedding is in four days!"
It's reported Spare was initially popular with holidaymakers but, during the summer, it quickly became "the most discarded" book with readers abandoning their copies in hotels and resorts across Europe. According to hospitality specialists, hotels have been flooded with so many left-behind copies, they started this month giving the books away - but even local bookstores and libraries won't take them.
According to On the Beach, hotels and resorts across Spain, Turkey, and Greece have had so many copies turn up in their lost and found bins that they no longer know what to do with them.
